The Sebastian neighborhood is named after Reverend Mother M. Sebastian, the former head of the Nazareth Montessori School back in the 20th century. Mother Sebastian was very instrumental in helping save the Nazareth Montessori School from closure. She cultivated the original ideals of this school and helped restore focus on serving the greater New York community. As a result of her efforts, the school re-opened its doors in 1915, sheltering and feeding countless students and serving nearly 125 families across New York. The school could provide a curriculum to nurture the intellectual and emotional well-being of The Sebastian community.
