En general, estábamos satisfechos con nuestra casa, pero no sin mucha frustración. Nuestro gerente de construcción dejó la empresa después de que se vertió la losa. Nos encanta nuestra nueva casa en las Highlands. Kate en la oficina ha sido fenomenal de principio a fin y sigue siendo genial si alguna vez la necesitamos. Ojalá pudiera decir lo mismo del constructor. Los correos electrónicos se ignoraban constantemente, la comunicación sobre las reparaciones era deficiente y las excusas abundaban. Me encanta la gente de Highland Homes y los diseños de sus casas. Well, they look pretty. Actually sales folks are pretty darn good. Then comes the contract. You better be really okay with signing your life away into arbitration. Better really get a really good understanding of what you are doing to yourself contractually. I would caution against buying a spec home, as you'll understand with the rest of my comments to follow. You want a new build? Get okay with the crazy cost of "upgrades". Some things are understandable. Some things are nuts. And if you want a pretty house, you'll have to be somewhat in the nuts category with the design team, as with any production builder. Project management is lacking of quality control in many critical areas & even lacking concern in actual on site day-to-day oversight (?!) ***Hire a really good quality independent inspector & utilize them at every step of the way*** Especially pre-foundation. Especially at framing. & I can't emphasize enough having your sheating & insulation inspected & keeping from any sheetrock going up until this is completely remedied. Expect Highland to show up to closing with a huge list of unfinished items that lack any concern on the part of the project manager / corporation to be quite easily have completed prior to close. You'll have a pretty house with Highland. But you have to actuvely manage every detail of the building process to get the quality you deserve when plopping down a 1/2 to 1.5 million dollars with them. ... Más

The overall construction process started off well, and communication during the build phase was appreciated. Weekly updates and photos helped us stay connected since we were not local. Unfortunately, the final stages of the process were disappointing. Before closing, we hired a third-party inspector who identified several items that needed attention. During the final walkthrough, we expected those items to be reviewed carefully with us, but the walkthrough felt rushed and lasted only a short time. Many of the inspection items were not properly reviewed or explained in detail during the visit. After moving forward, we also noticed concerns with the finishing quality in several areas of the home, including electrical fixtures, lighting placement, and cosmetic finishing details that did not meet the expectations we had for a home at this price point. Some items were later described as upgrades, but as buyers we feel more clarity should have been provided upfront regarding standard finishes and options. To their credit, the team did respond after concerns were raised and communication remained professional throughout the process. However, we believe the final quality-control process and homeowner walkthrough experience need significant improvement to better match the expectations of future homeowners. ... Más

We purchased the home when it was close to finished as it met our time line. After researching we were comfortable with Highland as they were rated better than most builders in the area. We were not able to see inside the walls as the drywall was up and all of the brick was up on the exterior. The buying process was easy. My issue is with some of the materials. Thermo Ply, Drip Edge or a similar product is used for sheathing. We knew that sheathing was used as almost all of the builders here in Texas use it because it is cheap and it can be cut with a knife, light weight as really it is glorified cardboard. Yes it passes code but it really should not. Especially in a climate like Texas with Tornados, high winds and driving rain. I just learned the house is not wrapped with Tyvek or a similar house wrap to the stop wind and moisture penetration. It is my fault as I did not do my due diligence. However I can't believe a house at the price we paid does not have this standard on every house Highland builds. It is not an expensive item. With no house wrap and cheap sheathing if there is water penetration the moisture is into the studs, insulation and then the drywall, causing mold, an unhealthy environment to live in and ultimately very expensive repairs. This is typically discovered many years later and the builder is long gone. We have other issues with the house which we are trying to get settled. This includes sloppy concrete and finish construction among other flaws. Not all of the materials are bad but the sheathing and lack of house wrap are very difficult for me to overlook. The sales team was great. When construction started, that’s when things went south. Our construction manager was changed after the house was started. Things that were written on the scope were not followed through correctly. We are very disappointed with the workmanship of the house. I have a working list of 27 items for warranty at this time that I need to submit. Also disappointed in the materials that were used especially using mdf products and not wood for baseboards and trim around doors. Do love the floor plan that we selected.

I bought a Highland home because of their wonderful reputation however, I was disappointed in the quality of work and the oversight. While I love the home itself there were many issues during construction and after. The finishes of the house are poorly done and it feels like cheap labor was used just to complete the job. I thought Highland was known for great customer service however, was disappointed in being brushed off by the construction manager. If you choose to buy a home with Highland, you need to keep a close eye on every single detail and make sure you bring it to the attention before closing. ... Más

The sales agents were great to work with during the buying process. Also, the finace agents were great to work with. The construction manager got changed during the process. I am not happy with the following items: 1. The towel rod is in the master toilet room, not placed next to the tub. Reason from the manager: The trim person is not allowed to drill into tile, because it could crack. This maybe true, but the window blind installer did it and the shower installer did it. This made think about the skill level of the workers. This is a high end home builder, therefore they will have very skillful workers. The manager should get the shower installer put in the towel rod. 2. The light switches in the master toilet room and the second bathroom are placed far away from the door, it got placed more than 2 feet away from the door. Reason from the manager: There are studs in the way to move the wires. Yes this is true, but it can get rewire. 3. The keyhole for the interior garage door is upside down. Reason from the manager: This is how we build all of the homes. The process to change the keyhole is very simple. I had to do it, it took 5 minutes. I would not have purchase this house, if I knew that the above items could not get resolved. I feel it should have be caught early in the building process. ... Más

There is no quality assurances. There is no trust to installer. After moved in and spent time cleaning up the house. I found out there are lots of damages, uncleaned while installing. If something they thought buyer can't see at walk through. they left damaged products in new home.

The experience with him is not quite good, there are some upgrades in the house that was not mentioned and it was too late to add it in, and there are some that are missing like a middle shelve in the main closet and he said it doesn't have one and the corner edge of the bathroom tiles doesn't have covering and its showing all the roughness of the tiles and there's one towel holder in one of the bathroom that is missing. There are paint issues all over the house that its not address yet. Not satisfied, might sell the house.

The process they have with pre-closing and home orientation is flawed. We had several items on the list to be fixed but the focus was on closing and not finishing the punchlist. We have been closed for almost two months and are still trying to resolve issues. Highland needs to have an independent quality check prior to closing. They say they do but they don’t. After we closed we came to the house and our cooktop was in the floor because it did not fit, which was an issue for weeks prior to closing which they had time to fix but just could get it done. Everything is just average

As a Vetran I feel I was robbed of my Earnest Money for chosen another Highland home in the same Neighborhood.I lost 12,500 which as a Vetran it does not come by easy.If Highland Homes treat Vetrans this bad everytime they will not get too many stars.

Initially everyone was great. But as closing came, things were different. Brick color was different from what we chose. There were so many little things that was promised but didn’t happen. Frontyard was just not great looking. Trees look dead. I asked the builder multiple times… not much response. I had to ask to power wash the garage. Had to ask to clean the floor before moving in. I wish the handover would have been more official and smoother… and 100%. I had bought some houses from other builders.. had completely different experience. We haven’t paid much attention to quality of work before closing. We identified few issues but didn’t insist too much on getting them corrected. After closing we ran into many minor issues from wall paints to lose door handles breaker issues wrong door type poor quality electrical outlets etc etc While none of these are big issues…. I didn’t expect to run into these petty issues which highlighted the quality of construction I do want to note that Highland had been very responsive and are trying to fix the issues.

This builder has so much potential because there is a good product that could come if the building team took our home seriously in their work. The building team did not walk us through home building as it should have been done so many things were missed and even done incorrectly due to lack of proper oversight. I often voiced concern that I need more information prior to having meetings to decide on things but would not get the information I need prior to or even in the meeting. The building team should have walked us line by line what each category is and meant and not brushed over anything or asked in a general section do you see anything here you want. We are not building professionals. After move in our concerns were brushed off time and time again until I had to provide proof of other homes that I would go visit during their construction that had items we were told were correct (but weren’t) or couldn’t be done (but we’re done elsewhere). Our floor plan is so beautiful but the lack of care has caused this to be very stressful once we were in the home and finding out things and not getting the help we need. ... Más

Highland does not adhere to its quality promise in Painted Tree. The construction manager who originally worked on the house left and the new one shrugged when pointed with the issues. Everything was rushed a lot including the home orientation. Just after closing the home we started identifying issues with flooring, issues with water leakage in washer/dryer unit which damaged kitchen flooring. Lawn is not setup correctly with water not draining. Even though the customer service is good and responsive, we did not expect the issues we faced in a new construction home. The materials are cheap. Replaced light fixtures in bedroom with ceiling fans and the fixtures were plastic and could not be more than $10. This is throughout the house - I could go on. The warranty department is non responsive. Still waiting for a response and have left serveral messages. The air conditioner is not working properly and will be the 3rd call directly to the company they picked.

The quality of products and material used in a 735K home is poor. The floor is painful to walk on due to no padding under wood and low grade padding under carpet. Wall finish is matte. Shower marble tile was not even attempted to look cohesive.

I bought the model home that was 6 years old. I was told that I had a warranty. NEVER NEVER did they tell me differently. I have an issue with the refrigerator that came with the house. I asked about putting in a warranty and was told then that there was NO ONE YEAR warranty on the home. I was told that they GAVE me money back to buy a 3rd party home owners insurance. The paperwork I saw, after closing, seemed to say that highland homes was paying for the insurance. Been informed now that that's now how they understood it. Bottom line, it's a very nice home BUT Highland Homes was NOT open and honest with me about this. I trusted and believe them when they told me that I had a warranty. They failed me and this is NOT what one should expect from a reputable home builder. Lost Trust and very DISAPPOINTED! ... Más
