After owning a Highland home ten years ago and having an incredible experience, we were excited to build another Highland after moving back to Texas. Unfortunately we encountered a nightmare with being assigned multiple builders, mistake upon mistake with workmanship and materials, and having to get upper management involved to actually get our build finished. I know it’s a tough market now, but I would not buy a Highland home again.

Due to the workmanship and materials for my new home, I will not recommend others to build house with HighlandHome.

Too many issues to write about. We definitely wouldn’t choose Highland Homes again.

Cabinet person had and awful disrespectful attitude

I don't think our home should have been sold in its current state. All of the initial responders to our problems are gone, we are getting a slow response to repairs and the home is incomplete.

I assume because the rush, the home finishes are not god. ceiling shapes out of alignement, a lot doors handle loosed, some paint finishes in bad shaoe, paint drops in some places. The grass planted came wit a lot of herbs on it. Precesence of ants even into home detected few days after moving.

Poor paint quality, poor trim work, poor wall texture, bad cabinets. Moved in after 15 month wait, and still incomplete. It's a beautiful plan and a very nice area. Just, quality, from a highly expensive builder. Expectations are low.

-Lack of updates/ inaccurate and incorrect updates throughout the entire home building experience. -Constant follow-ups to inform the builder of the inaccuracies provided. -Treated disrespectfully and blown off. -Pointed out several issues prior to move-in that I was assured would be taken care of. (They weren’t when I moved in and I received no communications. I had to escalate and inform the necessary individuals of what the issues were and escalations continue.) -Issues with the AC leaking and a Gas Leak happened during first few weeks of move in. -Continued issues outstanding to date and the amount of follow-up/time spent on issues that should have been done correctly is mind boggling. -Many individuals within the same neighborhood have the same exact experiences and concerns -Horrible workmanship with no one double checking that things were done correctly. -Issues included on inspection report prior to move -in weren’t taken care of before I moved in. These remain outstanding. -Continue to find items that have failed to be done correctly regularly. Face value, it is a beautiful home. However, when you do your due diligence you find that the workmanship and information you have been provided fails to be accurate. Be ready for a fight for what is right and many many hours of your personal time invested having to work through items that should have been done correctly the first time. ... Más

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... Más

Relocating from out of state meant we needed stronger and faster response on queries we had about the home, statuses, changes/modifications, etc. Buying process was difficult, too much confusion between Highlands (due to a lack of prompt communication), their chosen Title Company and our bank (a major credit union); this was quite a stressful situation on top of our relocation. Title company apparently made a last minute mistake on a closing doc, and we almost missed getting keys to the house on time. Literally had to sit in their offices until they corrected the issue, and they were close to closing for the day. Highlands takes the blame on that because they chose them to run Title; perhaps Highlands should look into a better title company. Moving in was rushed (lots of outstanding problems the day we took keys). Several warranty issues and “blue-tape items” persist even to this day, about 90 days after move-in. Highlands wouldn’t help with any repairs due to the winter storm. Ice Dam or other roofing issue caused interior leak on the house (60 days after moving in). Ice Dams could be caused by poor attic insulation, but despite this, Highlands won’t help or warranty the problem. Really poor experience given we just moved in here. I understand the severity of the winter storm, but we should not be experiencing ice dam problems or roofing issues 60 days after we took keys. Not acceptable. We intend on writing their corporate offices. For what we paid for the home, I definitely expect more. Almost 90 days living here and I still don’t have basic items (“paint kit”, etc) when buying a new home, and several issues are still outstanding warranty-wise. The one thing they did do well during construction was the additions we asked for. Those were well executed (water softener line, and other electrical). That said, it doesn’t make up for the rest of the experience we went through, and I can’t say my wife or I are happy with Highlands (quite upset overall actually). I have owned many new homes from different builders and this has been the one with the worst quality of build.

Poor service. Poor workmanship. Not a pleasant experience.

Overall I am happy with my Highland Home. However, the whole process of building the home was disappointing and unorganized. There were several things in the house that were installed wrong and took a lot of effort and time to get fixed. I realized this was an imperfect process but the amount of issues that arose throughout the build (which usually were caught by my dad who is an architect and not the contractor) made me feel like I was getting taken advantage of. As this is my first home, I was extremely excited to get my keys and officially be a homeowner! However, when I moved into my home, someone had locked my thermostat at 80 which was not fun moving in the middle of July in Texas. Since my contractor was out of the office, my thermostat remained locked for days. Again, I was left feeling under valued. I will say, Tracy, from the sales office completely made my experience. She made my first home buying experience special and made me feel valued for my business. She was actually the one who came to the rescue when my thermostat was locked. She went above and beyond and was taking on roles that were not hers...she is fantastic! ... Más

The workmanship is absolutely terrible. The subcontractors that actually build this houses don't care about what they are doing. There is trash everywhere. Beer bottles galore. One trade builds something and the next trade breaks or damages it. It's your average built house. They could do better.

Highland Homes may have built it’s better reputation in the early 2000’s for innovative, functional and almost high end quality materials. But in the recent years it’s quality and workmanship seems to be faltering. It’s been 86 days in our new house and there are already numerous issues of workmanship and quality of products installed. Had it not been with the construction manager and sales agent. I would rated it 1 star.

De principio a fin, no hubo nada que pudiera funcionar bien para nuestra construcción. Desde problemas de permisos para el camino Sri hasta tener que rediseñar el camino de entrada. Nuestro inspector externo encontró varios problemas con la instalación adecuada de todos los pernos de anclaje en todo el marco. Todos los gabinetes del baño y de la cocina estaban muy dañados, PERO aún estaban instalados. En ese momento teníamos la fe de Laos y la confianza en nuestro gerente de construcción y sus equipos, por lo que decidimos presentarnos sin previo aviso para hacer recorridos y fue entonces cuando descubrimos que toda la pintura y el trabajo de acabado no cumplían con el “estándar de las Highlands”. La textura de las paredes no coincidía y tuvo que hacerse 3 veces antes de que finalmente coincidiera. Los azulejos del baño principal están perdiendo lechada y el hombro gotea. La ventana del baño goteó durante casi 2 semanas antes de que se volviera a sellar. Tenemos lechada en la placa para salpicaduras de la cocina que ahora se está agrietando y separando. Y ahora nos dimos cuenta de que cada vez que la calefacción o el aire acondicionado están encendidos, todas las luces de la casa parpadean constantemente ... así que aquí va otra orden de trabajo y dejar que más personas entren a mi casa ... una pesadilla interminable ... ... Cerramos hace casi dos meses y todavía están trabajando en nuestra casa. Siento que el trabajo ha sido descuidado y no bien hecho. ¡Parece que estoy arreglando una casa usada en lugar de mudarme a una nueva casa! ¡No volvería a comprarles! ¡Mi error fue cerrar antes de que la casa estuviera completamente terminada! El precio que pagamos no refleja la calidad de la casa. ¡Estamos muy decepcionados!

dado que Highland se está mudando de esta comunidad, se tuvo el menor cuidado con los clientes. El gerente de construcción siente que los clientes son esclavos para él. Cuántas veces necesitamos hacer un seguimiento para resolver los problemas. Compramos una casa nueva para que no haya problemas y estemos buenos al menos por 2 años. Hasta la fecha en los últimos 45 días, tuve problemas con el aire acondicionado y el techo. No sé qué están todos pendientes. Tenía fe en las casas de las tierras altas hasta que compré esta casa. Pero ahora es un signo de interrogación.

Sin internet. Les pedí que salieran a arreglar las cosas una vez que noté que las cosas no estaban bien y me ignoraron una vez que cerré. Sin embargo, dijeron que contáctenos, siempre estamos aquí.

Pensé que estaba comprando una casa decente hasta que me mudé. El PRIMER fin de semana, ¡las cañerías se nos caen encima !. Había una estaca en uno de los árboles que un paisajista genial clavó tan profundamente en el suelo que rompió la tubería barata que se usaba para la plomería. Para su crédito, los hogares de las tierras altas lo arreglaron el mismo día. Una semana después, descubrí una gotera en el techo debido a un gato de techo con goteras. Esto se solucionó unos días después. Ahora me he dado cuenta de que el instalador de aire acondicionado que escoge Highland para mi área es uno de los instaladores de aire acondicionado con peor calificación en Houston. Nunca probaron la presión estática en el aire acondicionado, las bobinas estaban llenas de arena, se instalaron varios respiraderos al revés, etc. Esperaba mucho mejor que esto considerando el precio de la casa. ... ¡Cancelé el contrato con Lennar para ir con Highland Homes y lo lamenté! El vendedor fue muy agresivo y todo terminó. Ni siquiera estaba allí para cerrar o llamar para ver cómo iba todo. Sin atención a los detalles ni preocupación por mis necesidades. Siempre empujando mi preocupación o trabajo adicional a una fuente externa que claramente es un conflicto de intereses. La calidad del hogar no está ahí, pagué un costo adicional para actualizar los gabinetes de mi cocina y digamos que la mano de obra es terrible. ¡El trabajo de jardinería es terrible! Pídales que lo repare y aún no hay cambios después de tres meses. ... Más

La casa es hermosa y amamos nuestro lote. La experiencia real ha sido realmente mala. Desde una lista de artículos que aún no se han abordado desde la mudanza (8/2/19), hasta facturas de agua de $ 1500, sin llaves de buzón durante 6 semanas y errores ortográficos de nuestro apellido en un "regalo" del constructor. Yo diría que, si tuviéramos la oportunidad nuevamente, no seguiríamos adelante con Highland Homes.

Hay pintura en todas partes, baldosas rotas en el baño que aún no se han reparado. Tubería de agua con fugas que tampoco han vuelto a arreglar. No les compraré otra casa.

COMPRAMOS EN SANDBROCK RANCH. HEMOS TENIDO PROBLEMAS SEMANALES CON LA CASA. EL PROBLEMA CONTINUO ES UN PROBLEMA ELÉCTRICO. NO SÓLO NOSOTROS, SUS NUMEROSOS PROPIETARIOS DE HIGHLAND EN SANDBROCK CON EL MISMO PROBLEMA. NOS HAN DICHO QUE LOS INTERRUPTORES SE DISPARAN PORQUE LOS CÓDIGOS SON ESTRICOS, PERO OTROS CONSTRUCTORES NO TIENEN LOS MISMOS PROBLEMAS
