The house was perfect based on our first visit and finally we bought the house. Unfortunately, we signed the documents with many pending issues to fix and has been an mess to get everything done. At this moment (after 2 months we bought) we still have some issues pending to fix and I do not going to call you guys any more. I will fix everything from my pocket and I will send you the bill. I know you guys are not going to pay me but this is my house and investment.

I was so excited to build a Highland Home. Having lived in the birthplace of Highland Homes and seeing their style of home all over, it was a no brainer when I saw they built in the Houston area also. From start to finish, it was a headache. Now that I’m in the home, there’s issues every day and I’ve experienced bad attitudes from staff or no response at all. I am at the point of tip toeing around my house in fear of something else breaking and even worse anxiety when I think about guests coming and something falling apart of not operating. I’m saddened and disappointed from this long awaited experience and cannot recommend anyone to build a Highland Home in the future. ... Más

Overall the actual homebuying was low average--i.e. responsiveness to issues-after moving in -they seemed to not be able to control very loud music of their workers-this is ongoing and detracts from the overall experience-it also interferes with our ability to do our work at home.

I have been in my new home for 2 months and there are still MANY repairs that need to be made that were not done before we closed. But since we are in the home now, they are "warranty" issues. I did not have a working oven for a month because they electricity wasn't connected. I have had a mason come out 3 different times and I still have a hole in the wall outside. I have tiling, cabinet, sheetrock, and paint issues. There are walls that I'm sure are supposed to line up, that don't. I don't know how many appointments I have had for trades to come here to make repairs and there is very little that has changed. I work from home. To have people in and out of your home making noises disrupts my work. I went to 3 different Highland Models just to see how they look in comparison to my home and it just made me angry. They don't care about the owners once they are in the home. They are off to sell the next house. If we didn't constantly reach out, I honestly don't think anything would get done. I even had one of the trades tell me my complaint about a wall switch was petty when they came to make the repair. Needless to say, it didn't get done. I could seriously go on, but I feel like its pointless. It is really exhausting. I would NOT recommend Highland Homes to anyone. As soon as you ask about making a change to something since they have so much to do, they are quick to tell you it wont be covered by warranty. Lots and lots of issues in construction quality. Not working sd/co etc

The financial side of the transaction went smoothly. When it came with the actual, physical habitation, the workmanship was fair. Fortunately, when issues arose and reported, the building manager was available.

Moved in my house April 28th there were still a few issues that had been blue taped. I brought this to the builder attention and it was suppose to get repaired. It is now almost August and I have been given the run around. I have contacted the builder multiple times who tells me he will reach out to the flooring company and call me back and then I never hear from him. The flooring company calls and gives me the run around and now I’m stuck with a chipped tile that was that was suppose to be repaired. My bricks and mortar are starting to crack and chip. My baseboards shred super easily I think the material used is cheap. My house is so beautiful but there are some issues that I have had in the process. ... Más

I will leave it very short and simple. If Highland really cares, they will reach out to me for details. It is a VERY GOOD thing they had a pandemic to blame for each and every failure that came to pass on this build. In my opinion, it is only about making money for them with no care to the buyer and it is built into the contract to ensure that. If you chose to buy from Highland, invest in personal lubricant stock first.

I closed and moved in before all items on the punch out list were completed and responsiveness to my issues took a very long time to coordinate and finish.

House was to be completed in September 21, it was “finished” in January 22 to Highlands standards at which time they gave us the option of moving in or forfeiting the money we had put down and paid for upgrades and losing the property. So many things were still not done correctly but we moved in with the promise they would be fixed timely and to our satisfaction. Five months later, they haven’t fixed more than half the issues and haven’t responded to our communication attempts. Would definitely not recommend to anyone.

Based on a previous Highland Home we owned we sought out their homes as we felt they were a reputable builder and they stood for quality. They have been responsive to replacing items damaged or broken since we moved in but overall it hasn't been a pleasant experience. During our pre closing walk throughs we pointed out damage to trim, lack of finish quality, fact that sandpaper had not been used on trim board, gaps between trim and flooring as well as the overall finish paint quality on painted cabinets and doors. Minimal effort was put into making it right and it was as if this was just the way it is, take it or leave it. Ultimately we took it as it was the location we wanted and the homes were selling quick. After moving in we hired a private painting crew to repaint the doors and trim to a more satisfactory condition spending another $9500 on trim paint repairs alone. ... Más

We closed on our house with an affidavit for needed repairs/home finishings. We assumed it'd be done withing 14 days. We're over 2 months in and all of the repairs are still not complete. We've had to take multiple days off work to accommodate contractors, etc.! We had a third party contractor show up at our house to serve us a hand written "notice" that they haven't been paid by Highland and plan to take action. I met the guy while he was building the deck before we purchased the home. It's not my first pick of people to have showing up in the evening angry with my 15 month old in the house. We bought in a gated community with one of the "top home builders" and paid over market value. I really feel like Highland is a joke and focused on selling "projected builds" while the housing bubble is still high to yield profit. They're getting ahead of themselves and selling more than they can build/supply to take advantage of the market. If I could do it again, I'd go with Perry. ... Más

Overall, the quality of the home we purchased from Highland is good. Being able to see work that was put in behind the walls was encouraging. Unfortunately, it is clear that the builder was pushing to close before the end of the year to lower their tax burden on a developed lot vs the raw land it was before the building process began. The finishing topics in several places were sloppy and it felt like the term "in compliance" was used many times during our walk through. We were only able to complete our first walkthrough 5 days prior to closing so almost all blue/green tape fixes occurred after closing. Since the home was "completed" so close to closing, there was almost no option to shop around for mortgage rates because of the 14 day window lenders suggest so the only option was to go with the highland home loans, who's rates are higher than what we were offered elsewhere. The list of items to complete post closing it quite long and we were pressured by the project manager to sign the open items list about a month after closing with none of the items completed. It is currently almost 2.5 months after closing and most of the items are still open. Another issue we had was a leak resulting from when the sidewalk was poured. both downstairs bathrooms and the master closet flooded. I wouldn't have expected this to be caught since the issue was underground but the repair has been very slow. It's been nearly 2 months since the event and most of the repairs are still outstanding. We are happy to be in a home but performance from the builder was as continues to be frustrating for us. ... Más

Even though my home was far delayed due to supply chain issues, it should never have been closed when it did due to problems that should have been handled pre-closing. The front door doesn't seal and going on 4 months not fixed - allows insects and cold air into the house. One of the walls is 4 inches off spec per several post build contractors informed me about - causing the trim of kitchen cabinets to not be aligned correctly. Severe damage inside a cabinet that was not caught by the builder during their own pre-closing inspection. That, despite them discouraging me to get my own independent inspector within a week and a half of closing. Water holds in the back yard due to poor grading. Some wall sections are not straight. Framing was poorly done. Painting was sloppy and missed in some areas, painted over cabinets in others. Some window's aren't framed square and require custom fixes. Baseboard that had a seam in the middle of a room when it should be a single run. Ethernet drop wasn't put in and took a month to fix. Careless attention to detail and a rushed build on top of a price increase while I was ready to sign but management and thus communication disappeared for weeks before changing hands. We specifically told the Highland Home Representatives, unlike others we were in no rush for the home but rather wanted quality work and material used in the process verses speed in trying to move into the home. What we got was very poor quality work that required us to bring in a third party inspector and maintain a detailed list of issues that required no less than four internal inspections by us and continueing to maintain and demand the list be addressed in order to get through the buying process. You have zero quality control in your process and only look to push the home out in hopes of the naive buyer just taking the home. A perfect example was that we were told to come do a final orientation/inspection only to find that insulation was missing throughout the ceiling and so many other deficiencies that I had to call the Highland representative to ask her to come to the home so I could show her the pages of quality issues with home that they were pushing us to close on. It was also very clear that steps were performed out of place, which caused additional delays and costs to your companies. Blame it on the sub's is a common statement, yet these subs were hired by your company and no-one validated or inspected their work. Only because our insistence, did these issues get addressed. This required me to assign one of my employees to site in the home and ensure that the issues were validated as completed, given the lack of confidence at this point in the building process. Keep in mind, I made it clear we wanted a quality product and was willing to except delays (given we were in the middle of the Pandemic), yet we were pushed to accept a sub-par home for half a million dollars. We finally got things done correctly but it required way to much effort on our part in the building process, and surely would not lead us to recommend your company to any others. Your company lacks defined processes and a real quality control system. I own a company that does work for the Government, and use a detailed quality control system on the services we provide. Your company desperately needs a formal Quality Control Process, that is outside that of the superintendent, who appears to be overwhelmed. My hope is that you gain some insight into your process with real feedback, but I believe you will just continue your existing ways, which can only survive in times when competition does not really exist. You need a real Quality Control System that tracks and reports on all work performed. Good Luck ... Más

After owning a Highland home ten years ago and having an incredible experience, we were excited to build another Highland after moving back to Texas. Unfortunately we encountered a nightmare with being assigned multiple builders, mistake upon mistake with workmanship and materials, and having to get upper management involved to actually get our build finished. I know it’s a tough market now, but I would not buy a Highland home again.

Due to the workmanship and materials for my new home, I will not recommend others to build house with HighlandHome.

Too many issues to write about. We definitely wouldn’t choose Highland Homes again.

Cabinet person had and awful disrespectful attitude

I don't think our home should have been sold in its current state. All of the initial responders to our problems are gone, we are getting a slow response to repairs and the home is incomplete.

I assume because the rush, the home finishes are not god. ceiling shapes out of alignement, a lot doors handle loosed, some paint finishes in bad shaoe, paint drops in some places. The grass planted came wit a lot of herbs on it. Precesence of ants even into home detected few days after moving.

Poor paint quality, poor trim work, poor wall texture, bad cabinets. Moved in after 15 month wait, and still incomplete. It's a beautiful plan and a very nice area. Just, quality, from a highly expensive builder. Expectations are low.

-Lack of updates/ inaccurate and incorrect updates throughout the entire home building experience. -Constant follow-ups to inform the builder of the inaccuracies provided. -Treated disrespectfully and blown off. -Pointed out several issues prior to move-in that I was assured would be taken care of. (They weren’t when I moved in and I received no communications. I had to escalate and inform the necessary individuals of what the issues were and escalations continue.) -Issues with the AC leaking and a Gas Leak happened during first few weeks of move in. -Continued issues outstanding to date and the amount of follow-up/time spent on issues that should have been done correctly is mind boggling. -Many individuals within the same neighborhood have the same exact experiences and concerns -Horrible workmanship with no one double checking that things were done correctly. -Issues included on inspection report prior to move -in weren’t taken care of before I moved in. These remain outstanding. -Continue to find items that have failed to be done correctly regularly. Face value, it is a beautiful home. However, when you do your due diligence you find that the workmanship and information you have been provided fails to be accurate. Be ready for a fight for what is right and many many hours of your personal time invested having to work through items that should have been done correctly the first time. ... Más

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... Más
