No problem with build. Although prices are at a premium, we were disappointed in how small and crowded the lots in Sunstone felt after the build. We have a corner lot that is surrounded by an extremely ugly brown cinder block wall which is all that can be seen in the backyard. Apparently ,nothing can be placed against it to block this unfortunate view and we have tried with our backyard landscaping which still remains unapproved after numerous follow ups since we bought the house in May.

Problems, problems and more problems.

Good experience during the whole process. But I would make sure to get third party inspector for thorough inspection.

The house is beautiful

The sales and design process were excellent. Shellie and Tedi were outstanding, kind, helpful and responsive. Once escrow closed things turned very quickly. We have been in our home for 60 days and punchlist items from prior to close have not yet been addressed. Several appointments with the Shea Team have been missed without a call or email. It took me over two weeks to find a person who would take accountability. Froy was not only NOT helpful but was also rude and disrespectful to my wife. He acted as a roadblock not a facilitator. It was nice to be regularly updated on the build of the home via email and to be offered to view the home in multiple stages. However, at the same time if there are any questions or issues that arise there would be times that getting feedback would take some time. You can tell there is not enough ancillary support compared to the amount of homebuyers, so that individualized customer care can be properly given.

No flexibility. Many mistakes in the process

We very much enjoy living in Wickenburg Ranch. It took considerably more time to build the house than originally planned, which created a ton of challenges. We also had turnover of our building manager several times. There is still a missing component to the new home build. We also utilized the preferred landscaper of Shea homes and have some unresolved issues as well.

House built very nicely Equipment must be tested before final delivery

Overall my home buying experience was great. I love the home and community. Jacqui and Mei in the sales office were amazing, helpful and very responsive. They continued to update me as the home was being built on progress and would send photos of the house. If I asked them a question, they would always get me the answer in a timely matter. All of the on-site construction staff and management were great as well. I had a few meetings/walkthroughs with them and they explained everything to me in detail. I decided to hire my own private home inspector and I was so happy to hear that my inspection went well and only 1 minor item needed to be fixed. I did have one large hiccup that caused a huge issue and headache. We met with our designer Chrissy and the initial meeting went well. Went went over all our design selections and then were sent our contract to sign. A few months passed and we went to the house to view the progress. We immediately noticed that the grout in one downstairs bathroom shower and was incorrect. We had requested the same grout and tile pattern as our model home bathroom. This grout that was installed was the wrong color. After going back and forth with two different managers, not getting email responses for 3 weeks after I followed up and management refusing an in person meeting to discuss this issue, they offered to stain the grout the correct color. This whole design experience really turned me off with Shea Homes and my overall experience. I was just shocked to be refused an in person management meeting to discuss. The sales force was very good and responsive. After we moved in and through the 4 week walk through the response has been very poor. One person has the responsibility and he is overwhelmed. The communication from Shea Homes office where you submit an issues request is non-existent.

Have only been in the house for 3 months and still have some quality issues to address. Most are addressed timely, but need to be patient with the labor challenges since Covid.

All in all, it was a good experience, despite the pandemic and supply chain issues creating delays in the move-in date. One word of advice to new homeowners, be very critical and thorough during your final walk-through. It seems the workmanship was a bit 'sloppy' perhaps due to the extended delays and deadlines not being met on time. There were things that could have been done more carefully, had the workers taken the time to do them correctly the first time. As an example, the caulking wasn't completely done around my tub and faucet, which meant a plumber had to be brought in after I moved into the house. The water wasn't turned on to the fridge and when I pointed it out during the walk-through, the sales person wrote it down but didn't follow through on the complaint. Thus, it took 2 weeks before I could get someone in to fix the issue (and it happened to be the builder superintendent I ended up calling, because Shea Customer Service never responded to my calls and emails). ... Rome, our customer service rep, has been very helpful in getting proper trades out to fix numerous quality issues. Overall, disappointed in the attention to detail in construction.

Given the price point of the home and Shea’s reputation I would have expected much better workmanship from those various trades that did work on our home. The fit and finish on the home was really lacking. We have seen issue throughout our house with the attention to details including paint, tile work, cabinetry and windows to name a few. We know that trades do this work but there needs to be better oversight from Shea. We regards to materials it is definitely clear that the best materials weren’t used. From the faucets to the exhaust vents these weren’t the best quality or the most appropriate for a home of this price. The kitchen exhaust vent didn’t have the correct damper and causes loud noise when it’s windy. The Moen fixtures feel very cheap and low quality. The toilets are below the quality we expected, they don’t even have soft close seats. This is minor but iemblematic of the lack of attention to detail that should be fitting of a house at this price point. When compared to our previous new construction with a different builder the materials are definitely not up to par. Another example of the lack of attention to details would be the HVAC system. For a house of this size there was no zoning. It immediately caused issues with cold and hot spots in the house. Even though the issue was corrected, I think there should have been planning to address this during design and construction. Overall given how these homes were positioned in the market and the price point the trades really disappointed with the quality of work. The materials and attention to details were extremely lacking. As a homeowner this puts the responsibility on our shoulders to try to work after move in the figure it out. Workmen have not shown up when they were scheduled to. Closed 12/31/21. I am still waiting for mirrors and shower doors on my master shower. It has been 9 weeks. Smart home visit was just completed yesterday. There appears to be a disconnect between contractors.

Overall, we love our home and the neighborhood in Wickenburg Ranch. There were a number of issues regarding paint quality (recommend hiring your own painter) , drywall quality, door placement, leaky shower door, and exposed pipes on the patio. After 2 months of difficult discussions we were finally able to get Shea to resolve most of the problems.

Quality of the home is good but minimum they need to give house for 1889 sqft for the price. On top, house rates shld be stable. Every 2 weeks 30 to 40k increase I did not like it. Communication is good Workers are good Work site manager is good

Top notch service from the sales team (Anne Marie & Jim)! I would rate them 6 star if I could. But the quality of the house built, especially the workmanship was at an extremely low level. I'm a bit disappointed by Shea Homes on that part.

Once coverings started, so did poor workmanship. Holes in the sheathing, misaligned and damaged dry wall, poorly aligned trim. A lot of hacking, followed by hiding with plaster and RTV. Materials were above average, hence the rating of 3.

Nice home. Don’t respond to problems

It was a pleasant experience, however we have an awful brick wall all around our property that is a terrible eyesore and nothing has been done about this, we bought a premium lot with no one next to us and now we have no view whatsoever.

Shea is a good builder. We've built two homes with them, However the Canyons home has sloppy workmanship. Many items were installed wrong, banged up, loose, missing, incomplete, not working etc

Be aware that if you buy a “Designer” home, it’s nothing more than a spec home with no extras. I’ve already spent $25k upgrading things…not happy about that.

The builder has a an attitude of it is our way or go somewhere else. The communication is spotty and not always consistent among their employees. The house itself is okay but nothing special. I have worked with other builders and would rate Shea as mediocre at best.
